Sister-in-law 'reveals' about Huong Tram
Phuong Thanh, the girl who won second prize and "Most Favorite Contestant" award of Sao Mai 2011, shared about her sister-in-law - singer Huong Tram.
It's been 4 years since you released a new album. Is it because you're busy with children or because it's too difficult to find songs to make a product?
Phuong Thanh reveals about Huong Tram. |
- Partly because housework and performing take up a lot of time. Moreover, I want to release a product when I have truly matured in both emotions and voice. And I realize that the more mature a woman is, the more tender and warm her soul and the way she handles her work. In the new album "Nostalgia for Central Vietnam", the voice is still the same but now it is the salty experience of an experienced, mature woman.
In your new album, you chose a song by your father-in-law to perform. What is special about this song and did your father-in-law say he wrote it especially for you?
- The song my father-in-law wrote is a very emotional work about his hometown Nghe An and familiar childhood images. This is a new composition of his and I really love this song. The image of "a clay pot at noon, a coconut shell for scooping water" is very simple and familiar to me.
You and your husband are both artists. How do you manage your work? You once said that your husband, singer Tien Manh, is a very meticulous person. Has that meticulousness decreased or increased over the years?
- I must say that Mr. Manh is very meticulous in music, he always has been. And because of that meticulousness, he always gives me very sincere and accurate comments so that I can improve in each of my projects. He is truly a valuable companion of mine in my career.

Everyone knows that singer Huong Tram is your husband's younger sister. Is there any special memory of the relationship between sister-in-law and brother-in-law?
- Huong Tram and Phuong Thanh truly love, respect and "respect" each other. I respect Tram for her talent and great efforts in her work. Tram works very seriously in her art and to have today, I feel she truly deserves it. Tram respects me for my thoughtfulness and hard work in life. Sometimes she gives her sister-in-law compliments which makes her very happy. Even though Tram is so busy, she always remembers to congratulate her on special days.
But people often say "A neighbor's enemy is worse than a husband's aunt". So have there ever been times when a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law "didn't get along" with each other?
- Huong Tram and I actually have a very good relationship. People often ask if there is anything that we don't like about each other? If there is anything that we don't like, it's that we can't live close together to support and help each other more in life. Tram lives in Saigon while my husband and I live in Hanoi. We can only care about each other through text messages and phone calls every day. We also meet each other when she goes to Hanoi to perform, but we both have busy jobs so we can't share everything in life with each other.

Huong Tram has a singing voice and in 2 years she became famous and rich quickly. As a sister-in-law, you would be happy but have you ever worried that the hustle and bustle of showbiz would sweep her away and...
- Huong Tram stepped up to the pinnacle of glory too early. That is the pride and honor of the family. But along with it is also anxiety. Because showbiz is always full of gossip and traps, and Huong Tram was too young at that time to deal with all that noise. But now my family and I are somewhat reassured because Huong Tram is now much more mature and thoughtful. She knows how to think deeply and has a more solid career.
- Thank you for the chat!
