Only extend spring peanut planting season to February 25, 2014

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 21, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to restore spring crop production in 2014 to give some timely instructions in agricultural production.

Up to now, localities in the whole province have finished planting the 2014 spring rice crop. Although the weather has been continuously cold, thanks to the rice being planted on schedule and well cared for, there has been almost no rice area that has died due to the cold. Currently, people are also focusing on harvesting the remaining winter crop areas, urgently planting other crops such as corn and peanuts.

After listening to the comments and discussions, comrade Ho Ngoc Sy stated: In the coming days, according to the weather forecast, the weather will gradually warm up, besides being favorable for rice growth, it will also create favorable conditions for pests to arise and cause harm. Localities and relevant sectors need to direct the strengthening of monitoring and care for rice, while promptly detecting and handling pests. Water service units need to manage water closely, ensuring that the planted rice does not lack water, but must also use it economically and reasonably to reserve water for the next stage.

For peanuts, the season will only last until February 25, after which the area will be converted to corn.

In particular, the bird flu epidemic is developing complicatedly, the whole province has now had 4 outbreaks, the veterinary sector and localities need to focus on inspection, control, containment and suppression to prevent the disease from arising and spreading widely.
