(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 21st, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a conference to review the 2014 spring crop production, aiming to provide timely guidance on agricultural production.

To date, localities throughout the province have completed the planting of the 2014 spring rice crop. Despite the recent period of continuous severe cold weather, thanks to the rice being planted according to schedule and well cared for, almost no rice crop has been destroyed by the cold. Currently, people are also focusing on harvesting the remaining winter crops and urgently planting other crops such as corn and peanuts.

After listening to the opinions and discussions, Comrade Ho Ngoc Sy stated: In the coming days, the weather forecast predicts warmer temperatures, which, while favorable for rice growth, will also create conditions for the emergence and spread of pests and diseases. Local authorities and relevant sectors need to direct increased monitoring and care of rice crops, while promptly detecting and addressing any pests and diseases. Water supply units need to manage water resources strictly, ensuring that transplanted rice crops do not suffer from water shortages, but also using water sparingly and rationally to reserve water for later stages.

For peanuts, the growing season will only last until February 25th, after which the area will be converted to corn cultivation.

In particular, the avian influenza outbreak is developing in a complex manner, with 4 outbreaks currently occurring throughout the province. The veterinary sector and local authorities need to focus on inspection, control, and containment to prevent the disease from spreading widely.
