According to RIA Novosti, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov spoke about the details of the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin on April 25.

Mr. Ushakov said that the meeting was constructive and useful, lasting three hours. The parties discussed the possibility of resuming direct negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine. It is worth noting that the negotiations helped bring the positions of Moscow and Washington closer together not only on the Ukrainian issue but also on other international issues.

“Today’s meeting is symbolic as it takes place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the historic meeting between Soviet and American troops on the Elbe River. This meeting, as everyone knows, symbolized the military alliance of our two countries in the fight against Nazism,” said Yury Ushakov.

The constructive dialogue between Russia and the United States will continue in the most active mode, President Putin's secretary said.

This is the fourth time that special envoy Steve Witkoff has visited Moscow. The last meeting between the Russian leader and the US envoy took place on April 11 in Saint Petersburg, and lasted about 4.5 hours. According to presidential aide Yuriy Ushakov, the situation around Ukraine was mainly discussed, but other political and economic issues were also raised.

Mr. Ushkov expressed the view that Washington discussed Russia's signals on conflict settlement, conveyed through the White House envoy.

After the talks, special envoy Witkoff declared that “we have the opportunity to find ourselves ‘on the brink of something very important for the world in a global sense.’” Witkoff noted that the process goes beyond “the so-called five territories”; it could involve security guarantees and abandoning plans to accept Ukraine into NATO.
