On December 27, the People's Court of Quang Tri province tried and sentenced defendant Le Van Tu (19 years old, residing in Trieu Ai commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province) to 8 years in prison for using the Internet to commit property appropriation.

According to the indictment, around November 2014, Le Van Tu registered a Facebook account and made friends with many people online.

Then, Tu searched for the passwords of many other Facebook account owners by randomly entering them.

In this way, Tu stole many people's Facebook accounts and used these accounts to trick their relatives into buying phone cards.

Specifically, in early 2015, Tu impersonated the Facebook account owner of Ms. Cao Bao Trang (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City - currently studying in the Czech Republic) and texted Ms. Trang's uncle that the Czech Republic had a number of customers who wanted to buy back phone cards from mobile networks in Vietnam to play games at high prices, so he asked his uncle to help Ms. Trang buy phone cards and transfer the number to Trang for Trang to sell.

Trang's uncle thought that his niece had sent him a message so he agreed to buy and send Tu 1,439 mobile phone scratch cards worth nearly 678 million VND. Tu used these scratch cards to convert into cash to spend.

Regarding Tu's fraud, the People's Court of Quang Tri province also sentenced Cao Van Hieu (20 years old, residing in Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province) to 3 years in prison for receiving property obtained by others through crime.

Hieu was the person Tu asked to sell the fraudulent phone cards and receive the difference./.
