Admire the "golden dragon white horse" kumquat tree worth nearly a hundred million
The kumquat bonsai “kim long bach ma” was grown and shaped by an artisan in Tu Lien (Hanoi) for 8 years. Someone offered to rent it for 50 million VND, but the owner refused because the tenant lived too far away.
Standing out in the bonsai kumquat garden of Mr. Bui The Manh (Tu Lien, Tay Ho, Hanoi) is a kumquat tree with a unique shape, a horse's head and a dragon's body. This kumquat tree has many fruits, golden yellow like dragon scales, winding from top to bottom, making many visitors to the garden very excited.
Mr. Manh said that, inspired by the movie Journey to the West with the image of a golden dragon transforming into a white horse of Tang Monk, it took him 8 years to design this product.
The "golden dragon, white horse" kumquat tree in Mr. Bui The Manh's garden (Tu Lien, Tay Ho, Hanoi) is considered unique and rare by bonsai enthusiasts and visitors.
“There was a tycoon in Quang Ninh who wanted to rent a kumquat tree for 50 million VND, but because the road was far away, it was difficult to travel, and the tree was easily damaged, I did not agree. I wanted to rent it to someone in Hanoi, and I would transport it there and then bring it back myself because creating such a work is very difficult and takes a lot of effort. If the customer agrees to buy it, I will sell it outright for 70 million VND,” said Mr. Manh.
According to Mr. Manh, a few years ago the tree was like this, the fruit was not beautiful, he had to raise it with many hands, the branches were strong to keep the fruit, at the same time he had to raise and nurture the fruit in each batch such as yellow fruit, rotten fruit, green fruit... so that the overall tree would be beautiful.
The bottom part is in the shape of a dragon, winding around the vase.
Talking about the process of caring for kumquat trees, Mr. Manh said that caring for kumquat trees in pots is much harder than growing them in the ground because kumquat trees planted in the ground can be watered for 2-3 days, but kumquat trees need to be watered twice a day, and in the summer, sometimes 3-4 times.
Mr. Manh added that there are summer days when he is drenched in sweat but still has to stand for hours watering the plants and observing what the plants lack. Roughly calculated, a large tree needs 5 liters of water per day, or 1,800 liters of water per tree per year because the tree has to grow fruit, if it does not have enough water the fruit will wither and shrivel.
The top part is a horse shape.
Mr. Manh said that if you grow kumquat in the old style, or "subsidized kumquat", the fruit is small and has only one color. As society develops, the demand for beautiful kumquats, many fruits, green fruit, yellow fruit, flowers, buds, etc., so kumquat growers have to spend more time researching and experimenting.
Currently, in Mr. Manh's garden, there are many kumquat trees, each with a different theme and shape. It takes many years to create large kumquat pots. Currently, there are about 15-20 large trees, priced from 10 million to 70 million VND/tree and smaller trees are priced from 2 million to 7 million VND/tree.
