Hijacking fake Facebook to sell cars and scam deposits
On April 15, the police initiated a criminal case and prosecuted two suspects, Hoang Van Cuong and Nguyen Anh Van, for fraud and appropriation of property by using Facebook to post fake information about selling cars to defraud deposits.
Previously, Loc Binh District Police discovered that from around November 2023, on Facebook there was an account "Lo Quyet Tien" with the wallpaper "Quyet Tien Auto Company" located in Na Duong town (Loc Binh district, Lang Son province) and contact phone number 0911.731.129 specializing in buying, selling and exchanging used cars.
This Facebook account posted many articles and videos advertising the sale of used cars at prices much cheaper than the market. However, in reality, in Na Duong Town, Loc Binh District, there is no car salon with the above name and address. Many people believed the content on this Facebook account and transferred deposits to buy cars from 5 million VND to 50 million VND to bank accounts under the name of Lo Quyet Tien, but after transferring the money, they could no longer be contacted. Knowing they were scammed, many victims did not report it to the authorities because they lived far away and had to travel expensively.
Through investigation, the police determined that the person registered as the owner of the phone number 0911.731.129 was not Lo Quyet Tien. Mr. Tien (born in 2005, residing in Ha Giang province) was the person who registered the bank account but did not actually use it and did not know who used it.
On April 10, Loc Binh District Police coordinated with the Criminal Police Department of Bac Giang Provincial Police and Viet Yen Town Police, Bac Giang Province to arrest two subjects Hoang Van Cuong and Nguyen Anh Van.

At the investigation agency, Cuong and Van confessed to taking advantage of high technology together to commit crimes.fraud and appropriation of property. Both subjects have university degrees, so they have created many tricks to conceal their crimes such as using Facebook under other people's names; using technology to create an image of a fake car salon in Na Duong town, Loc Binh district as the account background; using images of used cars on the internet to post ads for sale at cheap prices; using phone numbers and bank accounts under other people's names to receive deposits. After appropriating the victims' money, the subjects exchanged it for cash at stores in many different provinces and cities.
By the time of their arrest, the number of people scammed by the subjects had reached nearly 100 nationwide and the amount of money appropriated was about 500 million VND. Cuong and Van divided the money for personal use.
Currently, Loc Binh District Police are continuing to investigate and expand the case. Anyone who is a victim of the above subjects should urgently contact the Investigation Police Agency of Loc Binh District Police at phone number 0205.2216147 to coordinate the investigation and handle the subjects according to the provisions of law.
