The inclusion of 'White Widow' Sally Jones on the list of 40 most dangerous IS fighters by US officials has sparked speculation that she is still alive.

International media reported last June that Sally Jones and her 12-year-old son were killed by a US bomber near the border of Syria and Iraq while trying to escape from the Islamic State (IS) base in Raqqa. However, the US State Department recently released a list of IS leaders and fighters whose finances were frozen, including Sally Jones, leading many to believe that the IS "White Widow" is still alive, according toMirror.

The British press has dubbed Salle Jones the “White Widow” because her husband, Junaid Hussain, was also an IS fighter and was killed in an airstrike in 2015. Jones traveled to Syria to join IS and married Hussain in 2013. She acted as a top recruiter for IS.

US officials never officially announced Jones' death because they had not collected her DNA on the battlefield. A senior security official commented that Sally Jones's appearance on the State Department list "may be an example of a failure of communication between agencies within the US government and an error or a belief that Sally Jones is not dead."
