"President Hadi has just been evacuated to safety, but he has not left the country," AFP quoted an aide to the Yemeni president as saying, as a plane flew over his residence for the second time.

Officials said Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi was forced to leave his palace after two fighter jets attacked his residence in Aden. The planes either dropped a bomb or fired a missile at the building in the al-Maasheeq district of the southern port city where Hadi lives, the official added.

Residents reported that anti-aircraft guns fired at the planes, and smoke rose from the area. A Yemeni security source said the situation at the presidential palace "is under control and there is nothing to worry about."

Developments indicate that the months-long armed conflict is rapidly escalating in Yemen.

The attack on the presidential palace followed fierce clashes at Aden International Airport between forces loyal to President Hadi and a rogue commander who supported the Shiite Houthi rebels. At least 13 people were killed and 13 injured in the clashes, security sources said.

Meanwhile, according to the BBC, two suicide bombings yesterday targeting mosques in the capital Sanaa killed at least 126 people and injured many others.
