Russian warship launches missile to destroy target 1,000 km away
The frigate Admiral Shaposhnikov launched a Kalibr missile and hit a target simulating a surface ship at sea 100 km away and a target on shore 1,000 km away.
"The Admiral Shaposhnikov frigate of the Pacific Fleet launched a Kalibr cruise missile at a surface target in the Sea of Japan. The missile hit the target at a distance of 100 km," the Pacific Fleet press service said.Russian NavyApril 6 said.
The Pacific Fleet said the surface target "simulated a surface ship." To ensure the safety of the exercise, Russia deployed helicopters, planes and warships to block the sea and airspace around the missile test area.
Earlier, the frigate Admiral Shaposhnikov launched a Kalibr cruise missile at a coastal target at a distance of more than 1,000 km. The Russian Defense Ministry released a video showing the missile leaving the frigate Admiral Shaposhnikov, gaining altitude before heading towards the target on land.

Although Russia has used the Kalibr many times in combat, including in its campaign against Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria, the Pacific Fleet has only recently been equipped with the missile as part of its modernization. In March, the Russian military test-fired a Kalibr missile from a small ship in the Baltic Fleet and another from a destroyer in the Black Sea Fleet.
The frigate Admiral Shaposhnikov, built in 1985 under the Soviet Project 1155, has been comprehensively upgraded with a new gun turret and increased stealth capabilities. After completing all tests, the frigate Admiral Shaposhnikov will return to the fleet later this year.
