Atletico strategist compares playing against Bayern to going to the battlefield

Atletico's strategist has boosted his team's morale ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Vincente Calderon stadium.

"The two teams have coaches and players with different personalities," said coach Simeone. "Bayern has a strong force, but on the battlefield, the side with more troops still loses to the side that knows how to use its soldiers better."

Bayern are the top scorers in the Champions League this season, with 28 goals scored. However, Atletico have the best defense, conceding just five goals (equal to Real). Simeone's disciplined defense was the factor that helped Atletico eliminate another formidable attacking team, Barca, in the quarter-finals.

"I'm expecting a tough match against a team with strong attack, a coach who changes tactics every game," Simeone said of Bayern. "We will try to bring the game to our advantage. We want to play well in each game instead of calculating for the whole match."

One of the key players in Simeone's defensive plan, centre-back Diego Godin, will not be able to play in this match. In the most recent match against Malaga in La Liga last weekend, coach Simeone tried 20-year-old centre-back Lucas Hernandez in the centre of the defence alongside Jose Gimenez.
