On the morning of January 4, the 40th anniversary of the victory of the war to protect the southwestern border of the Fatherland and the victory of the Cambodian people over the genocidal regime (January 7, 1979 - January 7, 2019) was solemnly held in Hanoi.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated: The historic victory on January 7, 1979 was a common victory for the people of the two countries as well as for progressive humanity in the world. For Vietnam, the victory in the war to protect the southwestern border of the Fatherland once again affirmed the indomitable will and strength of the Vietnamese people; at the same time, it demonstrated the noble international spirit, the traditional, close, loyal, long-standing brotherly neighborly relationship, the pure, wholehearted, and righteous assistance of the Party, State, Army and people of Vietnam to the Cambodian people. The victory on January 7, 1979 completely abolished the genocidal regime, revived the Cambodian nation, opened a new era of development in independence, freedom, peace, neutrality and prosperity.

Speaking on behalf of the National Assembly, Senate, Government, Fatherland Front and people of Cambodia at the ceremony, Mr. Tep Ngorn, Standing Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party, Vice President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, emphasized that the 40th anniversary of the victory of the war to protect the southwestern border of Vietnam and the victory of the Cambodian army and people over the Pol Pot genocidal regime is a very meaningful event in building peace, friendship and good cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam as well as to wish for the traditional solidarity, friendship and cooperation to become more and more solid and solid between the two countries.The country and people of Cambodia always remember the great and unforgettable contributions of the Party, State, Front, army and people of Vietnam who made great sacrifices to liberate and save the Fatherland and people of Cambodia from the brutal genocide, contributing to the process of finding peace for Cambodia. The great and timely support and assistance of Vietnam has contributed to the development of Cambodia from a country immersed in war, suffering and devastation into a country with complete peace, development in all fields and national unity.
Mr. Tep Ngorn also affirmed: today's celebration is a concrete demonstration contributing to fostering and continuing to strengthen and consolidate the traditional relationship of solidarity, friendship and good cooperation to become increasingly deeper, more sustainable and everlasting between the people of Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the ceremony, on behalf of former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia, Colonel Nguyen Dinh, President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, former volunteer soldier of the Political Department of Command 719, affirmed that the abolition of the Pol Pot genocidal regime, the origin of the genocide against the Cambodian people, the origin of the war of aggression against Vietnam, was the result of a united fighting alliance stemming from true patriotism combined with the pure international spirit of the two Parties, two States, two armies and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia. That tradition of solidarity has been tested and tempered in combat with countless sacrifices of blood and bones of the best sons of both nations, ensuring the longevity and development of each country and preserving it forever for future generations.
