Southern Syria battlefield: Syrian-Russian coalition wins big
With the support of the Russian air force, the Syrian army has had a great victory in the Al-Safa area against IS terrorists.
The Syrian Army (SAA) has made a new step forward in repelling terrorism on the southern front by capturing an important stronghold in the Al-Safa area.
The operation was organized in two directions to attack the defense lines of the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist organization IS in the strategic area of Qasr Sheikh Hussein. For 24 hours, the SAA infantry and artillery forces fought fiercely with the IS terrorist forces under the support of Russian airstrikes.

By the morning of October 8, the campaign ended, with the SAA killing many IS gunmen, destroying at least one technical facility of the terrorist organization, and establishing a new base at the site of the conflict.
A military source from Damascus said that the Syrian army is now less than 400 meters from the largest hilltop of the Al-Safa hill area - one of the major IS strongholds. Once this hilltop is captured, the Damascus government army will have full control over the entire vast Al-Safa volcanic area and the strategic city of Sweida.
The victory of this battle is an important step forward in the campaign to sweep IS from Syrian territory, which Damascus and Moscow are carrying out. Since August 12, the Syrian army has controlled the areas along the administrative border between As-Suwayda and Damascus, driving the remaining IS terrorist groups to the Al-Safa volcano area.
From that time until this new campaign, IS gunmen were under tight siege. However, this area has long been occupied by IS and has been consolidated into a strong defensive cluster. In addition, this is the most solid fortress that IS still holds in southern Syria, so this force will certainly resist fiercely, not excluding the possibility of kidnapping civilian hostages.
Syrian military officials said the victory of the battle on October 8 was an important step towards the success of the campaign to liberate Southern Syria from the domination of IS terrorists.
