When someone approaches you and offers to open an electronic bank account and then buy it back at a high price, be careful because it could be a new scam.

Recently, there has been a criminal tactic of getting acquainted and asking users to open accounts, register for electronic banking services, then buy them back at a high price, in order to use them for fraudulent purposes, withdraw cash abroad or transfer money.

This new trick of card criminals has just been warned by Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VietBank) and at the same time advised users not to open accounts, open cards and register for electronic banking services in someone else's name.

Previously, there was a trick on the market of using someone's name to make an ATM card and then buying it back to use it for the same purpose as above, which is to scam and withdraw cash.

According to VietBank, in addition to the above case, criminals also use phones, emails, social networks or fake websites, malicious applications to exploit information... thereby stealing usernames, login passwords, OTP codes to steal money in accounts.

There are even cases where criminals impersonate police officers, prosecutors or bank security officers to call and inform customers that their accounts have been hacked and ask for their account numbers and passwords.

There are cases where customers are notified that they have won a prize, requiring them to complete the prize receiving procedure by depositing money into the specified phone number or transferring money to the criminals' accounts.

"When receiving strange calls with suspicious signs, customers should stay calm, investigate and verify the information. Do not deposit or transfer money at the request of strangers. In addition, be vigilant against tricks to exploit personal information, accounts and card information. Pay attention to SMS and email transaction notifications to promptly notice unusual signs and promptly notify the authorities and the bank," VietBank warned.

In addition, VietBank also recommends that users do not install applications of unknown origin or from spam links on Facebook, Email, SMS...

Do not enter your username, Internet Banking/Mobile Banking login password, OTP code, account number... into a link other than the bank's web browser.

Previously, many other banks in Vietnam have also continuously issued notices asking cardholders to be vigilant against sophisticated tricks and schemes of criminals.

Banks also recommend that customers regularly change their PIN codes to increase security and promptly prevent risks.

Most recently on October 18, Vietnam Maritime Bank (MaritimeBank) launched an application that allows customers to directly access Internet banking to create and change their PIN within 1 minute when opening a new card or when forgetting their PIN instead of waiting for the bank or going to an ATM to change their PIN.
