Wrong trick of 'drinking without getting drunk' of gentlemen
Many people take aspirin or paracetamol before drinking alcohol to avoid getting drunk, but doctors warn that this is very harmful to health.
According to Dr. Vo Ngoc Quoc Minh, Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City,To cope with the constant partying during Tet, men pass on some tips to "drink a lot without getting drunk" such as drinking cooking oil or taking aspirin or paracetamol before drinking alcohol. Doctor Minh said these are misconceptions, not only harmful to health but also have no effect on preventing drunkenness.
Doctor Minh analyzed that paracetamol is a type of drug that is toxic to the liver. Taking paracetamol before drinking alcohol makes the liver more vulnerable to damage and poisoning.Aspirin does not directly damage the liver but can aggravate peptic ulcers and even cause gastrointestinal bleeding.
Drinking cooking oil does not increase alcohol tolerance, but instead causes indigestion and digestive disorders. Oil slows down the food moving down the intestines and stays in the stomach, leading to the misconception that the drinker is not drunk. When all this food goes down the intestines, a large amount of alcohol is absorbed, causing immediate drunkenness, and can even cause alcohol poisoning.

Dr. Minh said that each person's alcohol tolerance is different depending on their physical condition. However, to ensure good health, you should control the amount of alcohol you drink during the day. One unit of alcohol is equivalent to a bottle of beer, a glass of wine or a small glass of spirits.
Men should drink no more than two units, equivalent to two bottles of beer or two glasses of wine, a day. Women should drink one unit a day. A person who drinks more than 14 units of alcohol in a week is considered to be drinking heavily.
During New Year's Eve and New Year's parties, many people often forget to maintain a healthy diet, rest, and exercise regimen. Irregular eating, consuming foods high in fat and sugar, low in fiber, and drinking a lot of alcohol can easily damage the liver.
"The liver has to work harder than normal, and alcohol is the most dangerous factor that can easily damage the liver and lead to hepatitis," Dr. Minh warned. In particular, people with cirrhosis and hepatitis who drink a lot of alcohol will make the disease worse.
To have a happy and healthy Tet, Dr. Minh recommends not drinking alcohol on an empty stomach. You should drink plenty of water because alcoholic drinks cause dehydration. The most important thing is to drink in moderation, suitable for each person's alcohol tolerance to avoid getting drunk and ensure health safety.
