On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the contributions and support of the German Government as well as the GIZ Organization for Vietnam since the 1990s in the fields of vocational training, energy, and environmental protection/climate change response.
Projects implemented by GIZ have contributed to supporting the Vietnamese Government and ministries, sectors and localities in realizing their socio-economic development goals.
In the coming time, to avoid duplication in cooperation with international partners for Vietnam and the Mekong Delta, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue proposed that Germany provide technical support in developing plans suitable to the strengths of each locality and with regional linkages (agriculture, tourism, human resource development, investment attraction, etc.) to enhance the region's competitiveness.
Ms. Lucia Bergfeld said that the German Government and GIZ continue to cooperate in policies on environmental protection, response to natural disasters and climate change in the Mekong Delta; support the construction of information systems and exchange of socio-economic information in the area, serving the construction of institutions and coordination of common activities of the region.

Ms. Lucia Bergfeld affirmed that the German Government will continue to cooperate closely with Vietnam. |
Regarding the field of renewable energy, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed that Germany support Vietnam in conducting a detailed analysis and assessment of the potential for renewable energy development in the Mekong Delta for energy exploitation and production, thereby proposing appropriate support policies and mechanisms to maximize and effectively exploit renewable energy sources; and implementing a number of pilot projects for innovative new technologies integrating renewable energy with agriculture or aquaculture.
In addition, to combat natural disasters such as floods, saltwater intrusion and riverbank erosion, Vietnam hopes that GIZ will support in improving human resources, building an information system on sustainable natural resource management, on-site and with a sharing mechanism; and cooperating in researching new farming methods in the context of climate change occurring faster and more complexly than previously forecasted in the Mekong Delta.
Ms. Lucia Bergfeld affirmed that the German Government will cooperate closely with the Vietnamese Government in the fields of finance (through the German Development Bank) and technology (through the GIZ Organization). Government cooperation negotiations took place in 2017 and early 2018 to dialogue and develop cooperation plans for the following years at both strategic and implementation levels. In particular, Germany is particularly interested in the field of environmental protection cooperation, with coastal areas being one of the three areas of cooperation at the strategic level.
