Official: Galatasaray signs 1.5-year contract with Drogba

A few hours ago, Galatasaray's Board of Directors announced that they had officially completed the signing of striker Didier Drogba from Shanghai Shenhua.

Drogba will play for the Turkish team on a one and a half year contract. The "Wild Elephant" will receive 2 million euros for playing forGalatasarayfor the remainder of the 2012/13 season and €4 million for the 2013/14 season. In addition, the Ivorian striker will receive an additional €15,000 for each match he plays.

Galatasaray President Unal Aysal happily announced to home fans: "Teams can only be successful when they have the best strikers in their squad. Drogba said he is very happy to play for Galatasaray. He met with coach Terim before making the final decision."


Sharing on Twitter, Drobga himself is also very happy to play for an ambitious team like Galatasaray: "The opportunity to play for ambitious and title-hungry teams like Galatasaray is not much and I cannot refuse. I want to play in the Champions League again to face the best teams in Europe."

Before Drogba, Galatasaray also successfully recruited the 2009/10 Champions League champion, midfielder Wesley Sneijder from Inter. The recruitment of two players who won this tournament shows the great ambition of the Turkish team in this season's Champions League.

In the upcoming knockout round, Galatasaray will face the "equally matched" team Schalke 04.
