The Nhật Tân bridge across the Red River has been officially completed.

The Nhat Tan Bridge is expected to open for technical traffic on October 10, 2014, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi.

This morning (April 15th), the Project Management Board 85 of the Ministry of Transport held a ceremony to connect the two sections of the Nhat Tan Bridge across the Red River.

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and Mr. Fukuda Hiroshi, the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, attended the ceremony.


The Nhat Tan Bridge, spanning the Red River, was started in April 2009 by the Project Management Board 85 of the Ministry of Transport as the investor. To date, approximately 90% of the construction work on the Nhat Tan Bridge has been completed, and the project is now entering the final stages of completion.

The bridge is 9 km long, with the main bridge section measuring 3.7 km and the approach roads 5.2 km. The bridge deck is 33.2 m wide, divided into 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for buses, 2 lanes for mixed traffic, with a central divider and a pedestrian walkway.

The Nhat Tan Bridge is one of seven bridges crossing the Red River. Its main structure is a cable-stayed bridge with five rhombus-shaped towers and six cable-stayed spans. This bridge is expected to be a highlight of the Red River landscape with its beautiful architectural design.

The Nhat Tan Bridge, with an investment of 13,600 billion VND, is being implemented in conjunction with the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai expressway, creating a modern urban expressway that shortens travel time from Noi Bai International Airport to the center of Hanoi.
