When we don’t have enough budget, we often think of buying a used car, also known as a used car. But buying a used car is also full of risks if you don’t know how to choose a car.

For cars that have been maintained at the car manufacturer's service points, it's okay. Just bring the car to the manufacturer and ask for an inspection to know the entire process of use and damage. But what about old cars that have not been maintained by the manufacturer? There are many of these types of cars on the market. So how do you choose to buy a car? Experts will show you the steps to buy the used car you want.

1. Look at the vehicle as a whole

Park the used car you intend to buy in an open, spacious and well-lit area for easy observation. Then look at the car as a whole to see if the car's shape is the same as the original. If the car is dented or crooked in some part, it is certain that the car has been in an accident or for some other reason. Ask the car owner specifically and depending on the answer to conclude the car's history.

Check the door: This is the most used part of the car, so it needs to be checked carefully. Open and close the door many times to see if it is difficult to close? When closed, does it close tightly? Is there any gap or warping? If the car has been in an accident and the door has been re-made, it will not fit as tightly as the original. Use moderate force to push the car door in. If it closes immediately, it is original. If it has to be closed hard to close, you should check carefully. Check the glue that welds the door. If the glue is intact, not broken, and has an even thickness, and you can press your fingernail into it and it feels soft and elastic, it is an original car door that has not been re-welded.

2. Check the interior

Next, check the interior of the used car you intend to buy, look carefully at the dashboard, look carefully for signs of prying open, the original dashboard is of uniform color, not rough or cracked.

Check the steering wheel and gear lever. Gently rub the steering wheel to see if it is worn out. Normally, when you rub the steering wheel on a new car, it feels rough like there is a layer of thorns. Feel how much the thorns are worn to assess how the previous owner used the car. Check the gear lever in the same way.

3. Check the chassis

The chassis is an important part so it needs to be checked carefully, especially the bridge of the car. Remember that this is a part that can only be replaced and rarely repaired. This part is very important and affects the performance of the used car when you buy it. Bend down and carefully examine the iron part to see if it shows signs of being bent and repainted. If there are signs of being bent, you should not buy it because the car has been in a serious accident and the car's performance is greatly affected.

A careful inspection of the interior can help determine whether the previous owner took good care of the car.

4. Check the vehicle's mechanical parts

Check the engine block: Open the hood and see if there is any oil leakage from the bottom of the engine block. If there is a leak, it is likely that the gasket is worn, causing a leak. Remove the dipstick to see if the oil is low. Check if the wiring system is original, if there are many connections... if there are any signs, consider carefully to avoid buying a car that has been heavily modified.

Check the engine mount carefully, there are usually 4 rubber engine mounts with bolts attached to the chassis. If the engine mounts are broken, it will cause jerking when starting, and the replacement cost is very expensive. Check to see if the 4 bolts have been removed. If there are signs of removal, the engine has definitely been rebuilt.

5. Test drive and feel

When buying a used car, you must test drive the car. If the seller does not allow you to test drive it, it is best not to buy it. First, start the engine to see if it vibrates when starting. If it vibrates, there is definitely a problem with the rubber base of the engine. You need to check the base of the engine. Check the equipment in the car such as lights, horn, turn signals to see if they are working properly. Check the air conditioner to see if it is cold enough. If it is not cold or not cold enough, it is very likely that the condenser has a problem, either clogged or leaking.

Then you should test drive, the longer the test drive distance the better to get a feel for the car. Avoid test driving on flat roads, the rougher the road, the more you can feel whether the chassis system and shock absorbers of the car are working well.
