Waiting for a response to his resignation letter, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai decided to 'deal with' 48 parking lots showing signs of profiteering.
After the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested an inspection of 48 motorbike parking lots with signs of profiteering contracted by departments, organizations, wards... of District 1, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai said that the parking lots would be immediately suspended today (January 11).
This move comes after the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to inspect the licensing of 48 parking lots on the sidewalks of District 1, which are rampant and show signs of profiteering.
The City People's Committee also requested District 1 to review and immediately stop this practice in the first quarter, except for places where parking is really necessary, which will be assigned to youth volunteers. If a business requests free parking, the district can allow temporary parking.
Regarding the above directive, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai said that these parking lots have existed for many years under different district leaders.
In August 2017, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai ordered the demolition of the parking lot next to District 1 People's Committee. |
"My opinion is that these parking lots should be immediately suspended to ensure pedestrian safety and limit personal vehicles from entering the central area, contributing to reducing traffic congestion that is already overloaded," Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai shared his opinion.
However, the Vice Chairman of District 1 People's Committee said that ending these parking lots would affect individuals and interest groups, but he would resolutely eliminate them today.
According to Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai, many times before, when he launched a campaign to restore urban order, he asked the inspection team to restore many parking lots. He also proposed many times that the district remove these parking lots but it has not been approved.
The parking lot behind the City Theater was once "erased" by Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai. |
Mr. Hai said that "it is impossible to send an interdisciplinary team to inspect" because of the two documents of the district leaders. The existence of parking lots causing a messy scene on the sidewalks shows the laxity of ward officials, "even negative". To end this situation, it is necessary to transfer and demote ward officials who do not perform well.
"I have repeatedly raised this issue with the leadership, but there are many conflicting opinions, so it has not been resolved. Many leaders want to maintain the parks so that there is room for people to come and have fun, but in reality, I see that the center is already overloaded. On the other hand, people can still choose to go to District 1 by public transport, taxi...", Mr. Hai said.
Regarding his previous decision to submit his resignation, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai said that he has been working normally in the past few days while waiting for his superiors' decision on his resignation.
