The murder occurred at around 9:50 p.m. on June 6. Initial investigation information shows that Trung used a nearly 1 meter long iron pipe to repeatedly hit his wife, Nguyen Thi Lien (born in 1979), on the head.
Seeing their father beating their mother, the children cried for help, then Tran Dinh Cao (born in 1991, living in the same neighborhood, calling Trung uncle) ran over.
Seeing Cao coming home, Trung took an iron pipe and hit Cao repeatedly, including many hits to the head, causing the victim to collapse. Hearing his cries for help, the neighbors ran over but Trung escaped.
Ms. Lien and Mr. Cao were taken to Thanh Chuong District General Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, both were transferred to the Provincial General Hospital. There, Ms. Lien died, and Mr. Cao is currently receiving emergency treatment.
Upon receiving the news, Dong Van Commune Police and Thanh Chuong District Police went to the scene. The police force spread out in many directions and arrested Trung while he was running in the field, still holding an iron pipe in his hand, saying he was looking for someone to beat.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thong - Head of Dong Van Commune Police said that in 2016, Tran Dinh Trung also used a weapon to beat a nephew, causing injury. After that, Trung was arrested and prosecuted for "Intentionally causing injury". The authorities took Trung for a forensic psychiatric examination and concluded that Trung had psychosis. After compulsory treatment, in June 2017, Trung was allowed to return home.
On the morning of June 7, Nghe An Provincial Police are coordinating with Thanh Chuong District Police to conduct an autopsy. Suspect Tran Dinh Trung is currently in custody.
