According to statistics, every year in the world there are about 600 thousand deaths due to passive smoking. In adults, passive smoking causes lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, causing respiratory irritation symptoms...

Children are at high risk of health problems if they inhale secondhand smoke, such as: breathing symptoms (coughing, wheezing); respiratory infections (bronchitis and pneumonia) are likely to occur, especially in infants and young children, the condition may be more serious.

Cigarette smoke also harms the fetus in the womb. Pregnant women who do not smoke, if living in a house with cigarette smoke, will give birth to children with a lower birth weight than other children. Notably, children who grow up with parents who smoke are more likely to smoke themselves.

Nowadays, places where passive smoking often occurs are: Workplaces, public places, at home… In the workplace, inhaling cigarette smoke is very common. This is related to an increased risk of heart disease and lung cancer.

To limit this situation, most agencies and units have issued regulations prohibiting smoking in the workplace to help protect non-smokers and help smokers limit smoking, even quit smoking. For public places, such as: restaurants, shopping centers, public transport, parks... although there are signs prohibiting smoking. However, there are still situations of smoking without anyone reminding.

To avoid the risk of inhaling secondhand smoke, you should choose restaurants and businesses that do not allow smoking to protect your health and that of your family, especially children. Smoking at home will directly harm your family members. Therefore, not smoking at home is the most important thing to do to protect your health and the health of those around you.

To proactively prevent passive smoking, each person should remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from their homes, cars and workplaces. Temporarily stay away from smokers and areas where people smoke to protect their health.
