Legendary 'Lambada' Songwriter Burned to Death in Car
Loalwa Braz, lead singer of the popular Kaoma group known for the 1980s hit Lambada, was killed in a car crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to Billboard, Loalwa Braz's body was discovered by local police in a nearly burned state in a car parked near her home in the Saquarema urban area of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on January 20. She died at the age of 64.
Police have arrested three men and suspect she was the victim of attempted murder and robbery. However, no further details surrounding the singer's death have been released. A police representative said they are still actively investigating the cause of the fire.

Loalwa Braz was born on June 3, 1953 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a family with a musical tradition. She is the lead singer of the band Kaoma, the owner of the song Lambada, which took the world music market by storm in the late 80s of the last century.
The single sold over 5 million copies in 1989 alone. Lambada topped 11 different charts and peaked at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. Kaoma later translated the lyrics into two other languages, Spanish and English.
Over the years, the catchy tune of Lambada has remained relevant as it has inspired many popular artists of today. In 2010, Jennifer Lopez used a portion of the melody for her song On the Floor. The Spice Girls were also influenced by the melody of Lambada and included it in their 1998 single Spice Up Your Life.
