(Baonghean.vn) - President of the European Council, Mr. Donald Tusk, in a new effort to solve the European migrant crisis, warned illegal immigrants not to come to this continent.

Mr Tusk visited Greece and Türkiye on Thursday to negotiate ways to reduce the number of migrants heading west.

More than 25,000 people have been stranded in Greece as border controls in the north are tightened, raising fears of a humanitarian crisis.

On Thursday, a group of migrants damaged a railway track on the Greek side of the border with Macedonia to protest the control law, which was introduced after several Balkan countries decided to only allow Syrians and Iraqis to cross. Australia also imposed the limit.

The move has stopped thousands of people hoping to reach western Europe, including Afghans and other groups.

After meeting Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens on Thursday, Mr Tusk said he was making an urgent appeal to all illegal migrants, regardless of where they come from: “Don’t come to Europe,” “Don’t trust smugglers. Don’t risk your life and your money. It won’t work.”

Ahead of the EU-Türkiye summit, Mr. Tusk traveled to Türkiye to hold talks with the country's Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu.

Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu said the flow of Syrian migrants would decrease if the war and conflict ended, and the violence caused by the Syrian government and the Russian military.

Türkiye is home to more than 2.5 million Syrian refugees. It has also prevented nearly 25,000 from reaching Europe this year. But at the same time, nearly 13,000 others have managed to reach the Greek islands./.
