(Baonghean) - That was the statement of the founder of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei in an interview published on February 19, denouncing the Washington government's efforts to oppose the company's business.

Mr. Ren Zhengfei - Chairman of Huawei Technology Group.

“America cannot crush us,” said Ren Zhengfei, chairman of Huawei Technologies, in an interview with British broadcaster BBC.

“The world cannot do without us because we are more advanced” than our competitors, said Mr. Ren Zhengfei.

In his statement, 74-year-old Ren Zhengfei also referred to the “political” ruling regarding the arrest of his daughter, Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei in December.

Ms Meng has been accused by Washington of conspiring to defraud banks to evade sanctions against Iran. She is currently under house arrest in Canada, where she faces extradition to the US. “We oppose this,” Mr Fei said, “but for now we will leave the matter to the courts.”

Rarely appearing in the media, in recent months Mr. Nham Chinh Phi has had to frequently appear to deal with the increasing pressure on his corporation.

Huawei is currently suspected by some countries of being linked to Chinese intelligence services. This is also the goal of Washington, wanting to convince allies to give up using Huawei equipment.

Last year, several countries, including Australia and the US, banned Huawei from deploying 5G, the fifth generation of mobile networks. New Zealand also refused to use equipment from the Chinese company.

The US Department of Justice has accused Huawei of stealing trade secrets and deliberately implementing a reward system to encourage the theft of technology secrets from rival companies.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ren Zhengfei is confident about the future of his business. “If the lights go out in the West, the East will always shine,” Mr. Fei argues.

“The United States does not represent the world. Even if they try to convince many countries to temporarily not use our products, we can still reduce the number of products and become smaller,” Mr. Phi said.

However, the US may also fail to convince all allies to abandon equipment from the Chinese telecom giant. According to the Financial Times, the UK's National Cyber Security Service (NCSC) has found a way to limit the risks associated with using Huawei 5G equipment.

And other countries might argue that if Britain can limit the risk to national security, it might also be cautious about allowing telecoms operators to use products from China.
