President: Vietnamese press must be modern, not bend the pen

The 10th National Press Awards 2015, organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association and Vietnam Television on June 21, honored journalists and recognized the challenges and opportunities of Vietnam's revolutionary press.

The award ceremony was attended by President Tran Dai Quang, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Vo Van Thuong, Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Department Truong Thi Mai, Hanoi Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Ba Ty, and Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan.

Expressing his joy at attending the award ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang congratulated the 91st anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

"Our country's journalists have truly become soldiers on the ideological and cultural front, as taught by beloved Uncle Ho, the founder and great teacher of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. The Party and State respectfully acknowledge, highly appreciate and warmly commend the outstanding achievements and great contributions of the country's journalists to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation," said the President.

The President requires the press in the coming time to continue to strongly innovate content, strive to modernize organizational models, technical and technological facilities, ensure system safety and information security...

In addition to the task of propagating the Party and State's guidelines and policies in all fields of economy, culture, national defense, security and foreign affairs, the President emphasized that the press needs to better play its role as a bridge between the Party, the State and the people, and be a broad forum for people to participate in monitoring and social criticism, and improve people's knowledge.

The President reminded journalists to cultivate their profession, cultivate ethics, stay close to the masses and working people, maintain a strong political stance, improve professional expertise, maintain pure professional ethics, not bend their pens to temptations, negativity, and the dark side of the market economy, and be worthy of the trust and love of the Party, the State, and the people.

Award-winning work on agriculture and islands

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Thuan Huu, this year's competition has a record number of entries: More than 1,660 works from 61/63 provincial and municipal journalist associations.

From 142 outstanding works selected for the final round, 8 works won A prizes, 25 B prizes, 40 C prizes and 19 Encouragement prizes in all 4 categories of print, audio, visual and electronic newspapers. Many works were highly professional and applied new journalism technologies.
