President meets with exemplary medical staff contributing to Preventive Medicine
President Tran Dai Quang requested the health sector to grasp the situation and promptly detect dangerous and emerging epidemics.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Preventive Medicine system (1956 - 2016), on the morning of December 5, at the Presidential Palace, President Tran Dai Quang met with outstanding health workers who have made many contributions to preventive medicine work.

Over the past 60 years, the preventive medicine sector has developed comprehensively from the central to local levels, including state management agencies, specialized research institutes at the central level as well as a system of preventive medicine units in localities.
Many scientific research projects on improving people's health and preventing and fighting epidemics have been deployed and applied in practice. At the same time, the industry has proactively produced 10/12 types of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program and has the capacity to test and confirm emerging diseases, diseases that are currently circulating or at risk of entering our country.
Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Tran Dai Quang warmly congratulated and commended the achievements and great contributions that generations of cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of the Preventive Medicine system nationwide have made in the past time. At the same time, he congratulated 119 collectives and individuals who were honored to receive the Dang Van Ngu Award for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the cause of Preventive Medicine.
The President pointed out that in the context of globalization and international integration, while bringing about opportunities and advantages, our country also has to face risks of environmental pollution, the spread of dangerous epidemics and other challenges in the health sector.
The President said that this context requires the team of cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers in the health sector in general, and preventive medicine in particular, to continue to innovate strongly, proactively, flexibly, and creatively; and strive to perform well the assigned functions and tasks.
President Tran Dai Quang requested the health sector to grasp the situation, promptly detect dangerous and emerging epidemics, and proactively advise the Party and State on appropriate policies and solutions. Implement well the motto of taking people as the center, preventing and controlling infectious and non-communicable diseases and managing people's health in the community. Promote the movement of patriotic hygiene, disease prevention, physical education and sports. Synchronously carry out propaganda and dissemination solutions to raise people's awareness of disease prevention and hygiene, self-protection measures, and health improvement.

The President requested that the health sector continue to improve its institutions, enhance its capacity and effectiveness in directing and operating. At the same time, it is necessary to promote scientific and technical research, develop technologies capable of identifying and detecting new and dangerous pathogens, as well as develop vaccine production technology, ensuring vaccine security in disease prevention for people nationwide. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on taking care of the health of mothers, children, and the elderly, improving the quality of school hygiene and preventing accidents and injuries. In addition, it is necessary to closely coordinate between the military and civilian medical staff in the field of preventive medicine, especially in remote, isolated, border and island areas.
The President emphasized the mobilization and effective use of resources, research, and application of operational models with the participation and contributions of society and people. Diversifying types of health insurance, focusing on community-based types. Propagating and educating so that all people voluntarily participate in health insurance, gradually creating conditions for preventive medicine to be invested from health insurance funds. Along with that, research on solutions to help policy families, low-income people, and people in especially difficult circumstances in disease prevention and control.
The President also requested the health sector to actively expand international cooperation, closely coordinate with the World Health Organization, other countries and international organizations in the field of preventive medicine. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen information exchange, share experiences and cooperate in training preventive medicine staff as well as take advantage of support with modern equipment and facilities from countries and international organizations. At the same time, he requested ministries, branches and localities to pay attention to leading and directing preventive medicine work, protecting, caring for and improving people's health; closely coordinate with the health sector in building and strengthening the preventive medicine system, especially at the grassroots level.
The President affirmed that the Party, the State and the people always pay special attention, care and build the health sector in general, and preventive medicine in particular, to become increasingly strong. The President believes and hopes that the health sector in general, and preventive medicine in particular, will continue to promote the glorious tradition and well implement the teachings of beloved Uncle Ho: "Every healthy citizen means the whole country is healthy", achieving even greater results and achievements, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, the State and the people./.
