On August 28, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrote a letter to Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan, wife of Vu Quoc Cuong, an active volunteer in Ho Chi Minh City, who passed away due to Covid-19.
In the letter, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc shared that he was very sad to hear that Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong passed away due to SARS-CoV-2 infection on August 22.
The President emphasized that Mr. Cuong's noble volunteer work, like lotus flowers, will continue to spread their fragrance, reminding and inspiring more kind hearts, noble ways of life, and dedication to the community and society.
"For that reason, I hope that you, your children and our family will be strong at this time like the way of life, faith and volunteer spirit of Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong. Please suppress your grief and be proud of your husband, father, son and friend" - the President wrote.

Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong has been involved in many charity activities, setting up a free kitchen to support the poor in Ho Chi Minh City over the past time. |
According to the President, Mr. Cuong's passing is not only a reminder of the danger of the epidemic. His image of resilience and dedication to the community during difficult times is a source of pride for the Vietnamese people for their bravery and the kind and charitable hearts in society, their willingness to serve and dedicate themselves to the community, and for the spirit of one Vietnam.
The President expressed: "I am even more moved when one of your children is also participating in the front line against the epidemic."
The head of state said he has directed the relevant agencies to soon submit and propose honoring the example of sacrifice and dedication of Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong.
Through this, the President also requested state agencies at all levels to promptly discover, commend and replicate shining examples, ready to sacrifice themselves for the community, and charitable hearts that sometimes quietly but quietly contribute to a better society.
The President believes that these ordinary but extraordinary people lived and followed the example of their fathers and grandfathers, the wartime heroes.
Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong (born in 1975), residing in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, affectionately known as Cuong "Beo". He opened two Cuong "Beo" vegetarian restaurants to support the poor. Although located in a small alley, the restaurant is always a familiar address for thousands of poor people in Ho Chi Minh City.
When the epidemic broke out, he and his friends continued to set up a charity kitchen to cook rice, supporting the frontline forces fighting the epidemic. However, after 2 months of doing many volunteer activities in the epidemic area, he contracted Covid-19 and passed away.
Until his death, he still told his friends and colleagues to continue helping people who were less fortunate than him.
