President Tran Dai Quang departs for State visit to Laos

On the morning of June 12, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese State, left Hanoi for a State visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic from June 12-14, at the invitation of General Secretary and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Vorachith.

The State visit of President Tran Dai Quang to the Lao People's Democratic Republic aims to demonstrate the importance and promote the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. This is the first foreign visit of President Tran Dai Quang in his capacity as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Over the past years, on the basis of visits, meetings and contacts between high-ranking leaders of the two countries, the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos have continuously developed, becoming increasingly deeper, more practical and effective in all fields.

In terms of economics and trade, as of early 2016, Vietnam had 258 licensed investment projects in Laos, with a total registered capital of 5.3 billion USD. The two countries signed a new Trade Agreement (March 2015), a Border Trade Agreement (June 2015); and closely coordinated the implementation of ODA projects from Vietnam for Laos.

At the same time, the two countries also strengthen cooperation in the fields of national security and defense, protecting political security, social order and safety, preventing sabotage plots and tricks of hostile forces; the two sides pay special attention to improving the quality and effectiveness of cooperation in the fields of education and training, human resource development; cooperation in the fields of traffic, transportation, science and technology, culture and society... is also focused on implementation at the central, ministerial and local levels.

Participating in the high-ranking delegation on a State visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic were: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Head of the Office of the President Dao Viet Trung; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha; Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Lao People's Democratic Republic Nguyen Manh Hung; Deputy Minister of National Defense Le Chiem; Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ninh Province Nguyen Van Doc; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vu Hong Nam; Deputy Head of the Central External Relations Commission Pham Xuan Son; Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Thanh; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu.

Concluding the State visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, at the invitation of Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife paid a State visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from June 15-16, 2016.

The friendly neighborly relations and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia have continued to be promoted in recent times, with delegation exchanges maintained at both high levels and at ministries, branches and localities, bilateral cooperation mechanisms implemented, defense and security cooperation strengthened... contributing to strengthening the trust between the leaders and people of the two countries. Vietnam has invested in 172 projects in Cambodia, with a total registered capital of about 3.62 billion USD, ranking 5th among 50 countries and territories investing in Cambodia; Cambodia has 12 valid investment projects in Vietnam.
