At the invitation of President of the Republic of India Ram Nath Kovind, on the morning of March 2, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Hanoi for a State visit to the Republic of India from March 2-4.

The State visit of President Tran Dai Quang and his wife to the Republic of India takes place in the context of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and India continuing to develop extensively, especially since the two countries established a Strategic Partnership in 2007 and upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016.

The visit affirmed that Vietnam persistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations, in which it always attaches importance to strengthening traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with India.

Vietnam and India have a traditional, long-standing friendship that has been preserved, nurtured and continuously developed by generations of leaders of the two countries.
Since the 1950s, President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru have affirmed the everlasting friendship between the two nations. India has actively supported Vietnam in its past struggles for independence and unification, as well as in its later cause of renovation and development.

Since the two countries established a Strategic Partnership in 2007, the two sides have expanded and implemented all areas of cooperation from economics, trade, investment to cooperation in the fields of security, defense, science, education, culture, tourism, agriculture, etc.

In particular, economic and trade relations are identified by the two governments as one of the pillars of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership.

India is currently one of Vietnam's 10 largest trading partners, while Vietnam is also a top priority partner in India's Look East Policy.

Bilateral trade turnover increased by an average of 16% per year in the period 2008-2013.

In 2017, trade turnover was estimated at 7.5 billion USD (up 37.7% compared to 2016). By the end of November 2017, India's total registered investment capital in Vietnam reached 756 million USD, with 168 investment projects in 24 provinces/cities, ranking 28th out of 126 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Vietnam currently has 7 investment projects in India with a total registered capital of 6.15 million USD, mainly in the fields of distributing animal feed products, distributing construction materials, exporting cosmetics, and information technology products...

India is helping Vietnam train high-quality human resources in many fields such as information technology, economics, law, English, etc. through many short-term and long-term scholarships (about 150 scholarships).

In recent years, the number of Indian visitors to Vietnam has increased impressively, averaging 17% per year in the period 2010-2016; in 2016 it increased by 30% (85,000 arrivals).

The two sides closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially within the United Nations. In its role as coordinator of India-ASEAN relations (2015-2018), Vietnam supports India in implementing its “Act East” policy, regional connectivity initiatives, and supporting the development of the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) sub-region and the Mekong-Ganga (MGC) sub-region.

The high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on a State visit to the Republic of India included: Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Party Central Committee members: Chairman of the Office of the President Dao Viet Trung, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh, Secretary of Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Hien, Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh.

The delegation also included Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Dinh Quy, Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien, and Assistant to the President Tran Quang Tiep.

At the end of his visit to the Republic of India, at the invitation of President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Hamid, President Tran Dai Quang and his wife will pay a State visit to the People's Republic of Bangladesh from March 4-6./.
