President Tran Dai Quang receives President of the Indonesian Senate
At the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang said that the two countries need to strengthen research on measures to create breakthroughs and soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD in the coming time.
On the afternoon of January 18, at the Presidential Palace, President Tran Dai Quang received Chairman of the Local Delegation Council (Senate) of Indonesia Oesman Sapta Odang for a courtesy visit on the occasion of attending the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) in Vietnam.
Speaking at the reception, President Tran Dai Quang highly appreciated Senate President Oesman Sapta Odang and the high-ranking delegation of the Indonesian Senate attending the APPF-26 Annual Meeting in Vietnam, contributing to the success of the Meeting, as well as strengthening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.
The President was pleased to see the traditional friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia developing strongly, especially the official visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Indonesia (August 22-24, 2017) which brought the relationship between the two countries to a new stage of development.
President Tran Dai Quang congratulated Indonesia on the appointment of a new Speaker of the House of Representatives; he believed that the cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies, including the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, would continue to be strengthened, making positive contributions to promoting the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership.
On this occasion, President Tran Dai Quang thanked Indonesian President Joko Widodo for attending the APEC Summit 2017 in Da Nang City, making an important contribution to the success of the Summit and APEC Vietnam Year 2017. President Tran Dai Quang respectfully invited President Joko Widodo to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam warmly welcomes the visit of the Indonesian President.
With sincere thanks to President Tran Dai Quang for taking the time to meet him, Senate President Oesman Sapta Odang respectfully conveyed greetings from Indonesian President Joko Widodo to the President.
Expressing admiration for Vietnam's development achievements, Senate President Oesman Sapta Odang affirmed Indonesia's determination to elevate the strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level, through enhancing cooperation at the State and National Assembly channels, and consolidating cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries.
President Tran Dai Quang and Senate President Oesman Sapta Odang shared the view that ASEAN countries and the international community in general need to strengthen cooperation and address common challenges. The ASEAN Community has entered its third year since its establishment in 2015. Over the past time, the Community has achieved many important achievements, contributing to enhancing ASEAN's position and role in the region and the world. Therefore, as responsible members, Vietnam and Indonesia will continue to cooperate closely and, together with other ASEAN countries, increase intra-bloc cooperation, strengthen solidarity and unity within ASEAN, maintain a peaceful, stable, cooperative and mutually developing environment.
President Tran Dai Quang highly appreciated Indonesia's cooperation in the fields of economic, trade and investment cooperation, defense-security, and cooperation in resolving the issue of Vietnamese fishermen in the spirit of friendship, humanity, ASEAN solidarity and in accordance with the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership.
Assessing the huge potential for cooperation and room for development of Vietnam-Indonesia trade and investment relations, President Tran Dai Quang said that the two countries need to strengthen research on measures to create breakthroughs, soon bringing bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD in the coming time (the turnover in 2017 reached more than 6.5 billion USD). The President suggested that the two countries should soon exchange and sign minutes of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries' Ministries of Industry and Trade, cooperation between agencies managing the field of trade defense, cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture, etc., as well as agreements on mutual recognition of standards in potential fields, such as oil and gas, food industry, chemicals./.
