President Vo Van Thuong calls for joint efforts to help the poor
"Let us unite with love and compassion, together building a united community, a progressive, civilized society filled with humanity" - President Vo Van Thuong said.
On the morning of April 23, in Can Tho, President Vo Van Thuong attended and spoke at the launching ceremony of the National Humanitarian Month 2023 and the 160th Anniversary of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The program was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with the People's Committee of Can Tho City. Also attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; leaders of a number of ministries, branches and localities; representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; representatives of Red Cross Societies of various countries; philanthropists; a large number of Red Cross officials, members, volunteers and youth.
At the launching ceremony, philanthropists supported and pledged to contribute more than 485 billion VND.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that the Humanitarian Month 2023 will start from May 1 to 31 with the theme "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community" to arouse the love of each person, calling on everyone to actively participate in charitable and humanitarian activities as a "command from the heart", ready to help difficult circumstances, multiply acts of kindness, contributing to building a united and compassionate community.
After 5 years of organizing the Humanitarian Month since 2018, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has mobilized more than 2,050 billion VND, helping more than 4.3 million poor and disadvantaged people. During this year's Humanitarian Month, the Society strives for each province and city to organize at least 1 humanitarian project, part of the work, and a humanitarian address program with the participation and support of the locality.
At the launching ceremony, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa respectfully announced that the Politburo has assigned Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and President, as Honorary President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society for the 2022-2027 term.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his honor to receive the role of Honorary President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. Following the tradition of previous Presidents, the President said he would actively contribute to the development of the association and the humanitarian movement nationwide in the coming time.
Emphasizing the tradition of the Vietnamese people of always being united, benevolent, and "loving others as you love yourself", the President said that as a country that had to go through long years of war to liberate the nation, protect the Fatherland, and was often devastated by natural disasters and epidemics, this tradition was further affirmed and multiplied strongly.
The President assessed that after 5 years of implementing the Humanitarian Month initiative, the program has contributed to raising awareness, encouraging, promoting, arousing and spreading the spirit of mutual love, care and sharing in society; Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, unions at all levels and organizations, businesses and individuals nationwide have paid attention and created conditions for the Red Cross to perform well its core role, a bridge connecting and coordinating in humanitarian activities.

The President believes that the Humanitarian Month 2023 with the theme "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community" and the movement: "Good people, good deeds, joining hands to build a compassionate community", striving to mobilize at least 400 billion VND to help 1 million people in difficult circumstances, with priority given to poor and disadvantaged fishermen and poor and disabled children, will receive strong support from benefactors at home and abroad.
In order for Humanitarian Month to truly become a month for all people to do humanitarian activities, "each organization and each individual is associated with a humanitarian address", contributing to the implementation of the social security policy of the Party and State, the President called on agencies, organizations, businesses, international organizations, philanthropists and people from all walks of life to continue to coordinate, support and accompany the Vietnam Red Cross Society in providing increasingly more effective assistance to the poor and people in difficult circumstances.

President Vo Van Thuong hopes that the Red Cross at all levels, each cadre, member, volunteer, youth of the Red Cross and humanitarian workers nationwide always remember and follow Uncle Ho's teachings, must come from a deep love for the people to contribute to protecting people's health and do everything possible to reduce their suffering.

Thanking the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and international friends for always caring about and supporting humanitarian activities in Vietnam, the President assessed that in the 160-year history of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, over the past 66 years, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has always been a very active member.
The Association has made many important contributions to providing material and spiritual support to people in difficulty, victims of war, natural disasters and catastrophes; participating in primary health care for the people; mobilizing organizations and individuals to participate in humanitarian activities.
