President Ton Duc Thang - A shining example of revolutionary ethics
(Baonghean.vn) - Throughout the life of President Ton Duc Thang, from a worker, soldier to a revolutionary organization, from Con Dao prison to participating in the resistance war, and through important positions in the Party and State leadership apparatus, until becoming President, he always exuded the modesty and simplicity of an exemplary model of revolutionary ethics.
President Ton Duc Thang was born and raised in the tradition of patriotism and humanity of his homeland, family and people. Comrade Ton Duc Thang early had the aspiration to go towards the working people, choosing the direction of technical labor, working as a worker, integrating into the life of the working class.

The spirit of patriotism and hatred of imperialism helped Ton Duc Thang to soon reveal his practical organizational capacity. Before the light of Marxism-Leninism to guide the way, standing on the position of a patriot, comrade Ton Duc Thang soon participated in strikes and strikes of workers at Ba Son factory and students at Ba Nghe school.
Even in his youth, with a patriotic heart, hatred for the imperialist invaders, comrade Ton Duc Thang soon showed his love for the unfortunate and miserable people. In the imperialist prison, the image of "the man who grinds rice" Ton Duc Thang was a shining example of sacrifice and love for comrades in the same situation.
In his leadership positions in the Party and the State, Comrade Ton Duc Thang wholeheartedly devoted himself to serving the revolution and the people, without caring about personal fame or profit. Comrade Ton Duc Thang lived a very simple life, did not ask for anything material, and loved his brothers and compatriots.

President Ton Duc Thang's contributions in terms of revolutionary ethics have been repeatedly affirmed and highly appreciated by President Ho Chi Minh, our Party, our people and international friends.
In 1958, on the occasion of congratulating President Ton Duc Thang on his 70th birthday, President Ho Chi Minh said: "Comrade Ton Duc Thang is a model of revolutionary morality: a lifelong person of diligence, thrift, integrity, and uprightness; a lifetime of wholehearted devotion to serving the revolution and serving the people."
Comrade Le Duan, late General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, affirmed: "Along with the spirit of tireless striving, comrade Ton Duc Thang also stood out with a steadfast stance, noble spirit, modesty and simplicity, which are shining examples for us to learn from."
The late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong wrote: "... The most precious legacy that comrade Ton Duc Thang left to the people is the human quality of Ton Duc Thang, a synthesis of the chivalrous quality of the South, the resilient quality and creative talent of Vietnam, the pioneering quality of the working class, the revolutionary quality of a patriot, a communist, and the humane quality of a human being. The essence of that quality is love for the country, love for the people, affection for compatriots and comrades; a strong belief in the victory of the revolution despite all difficulties and hardships, a spirit of wholeheartedly serving the people, a selfless and selfless public spirit, modesty, simplicity, innocence, and purity".

The late General Vo Nguyen Giap also wrote: "Uncle Ton was an extremely simple man, still a worker, still holding a hammer, pliers... and repairing his own bicycle. Our Uncle Ton is such a man, a worker who represents the revolutionary spirit, the most noble revolutionary ethics of the working class, of the Vietnamese people, of our Party, of our Vietnamese people."
The late Chairman of the State Council, Vo Chi Cong, affirmed: "Along with loyalty, dedication, steadfast stance, and indomitable courage, Uncle Ton also had the virtues of modesty, simplicity, sincerity, and integration with the masses."
From the events of 1919 until his death in 1980, Comrade Ton Duc Thang had over 60 years of complete, continuous, and effective dedication to the world revolutionary movement, deserving to be one of the most representative leaders of the noble, pure, and loyal international spirit. That is specifically demonstrated in the recognition and evaluation of friends around the world.

In recognition of Uncle Ton's outstanding contributions to the nation, Uncle Ho requested the National Assembly and the Government to consider and approve awarding Uncle Ton the Gold Star Order - the most noble Order of the State of Vietnam. And President Ton Duc Thang was the first Vietnamese to receive this noble award.
Throughout his long, vibrant and rich life of revolutionary activities, President Ton Duc Thang made many contributions to the international communist and workers' movement, to the national liberation movement and the struggle of progressive people for peace, national independence, democracy and progress around the world.
As an outstanding and exemplary leader, President Ton Duc Thang forever left behind an extremely valuable legacy of ideology, ethics and style, not expressed through poems and theoretical works but through his brilliance in practical revolutionary activities that were rich in party spirit, combativeness, humanity and a brilliant expression of dynamic and creative thinking.
