(Baonghean) - Discussion by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao - doctor of Nghe An Northwest Regional General Hospital; candidate for the 14th National Assembly.

PV:How do you feel when being introduced as a candidate for the 14th National Assembly?

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao:I am very honored, but honestly, I cannot help but think of the “pressure” of the expectations from the people. However, from the realities I have experienced, and from my concerns, I think that responsibility will help me make a certain contribution. As a representative of the will and aspirations of the voters, I will promote the opinions of the people to join the National Assembly in making important decisions for the development of health in particular, and other fields in general in mountainous, remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas.

PV:Could you tell us, if elected by voters as a delegate to the 14th National Assembly, what issues will you focus on in your action program?

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao: First of all, in addition to constantly improving my qualifications in all aspects to meet professional tasks, I must perform well the functions and tasks of a National Assembly delegate if elected. That is to fully participate in National Assembly sessions and meetings with voters; to be close to and understand the aspirations of voters in order to submit them to competent authorities for resolution.

As a doctor, I realize that, in reality, although the health sector has improved a lot in the work of medical examination and treatment for people, there are still many issues that people are concerned about, namely: quality of medical examination and treatment, modern equipment, and a team of good doctors serving the health care in remote and isolated areas. Therefore, if I am elected by voters to the 14th National Assembly, I will pay attention to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, epidemic prevention and hygiene, primary health care, and women's and children's health.

Accordingly, it will recommend and propose to the National Assembly and the Government to invest in the health sector with preferential policies for health workers, especially at the grassroots level, to attract staff to serve in difficult, remote and isolated areas. It is recommended to invest in synchronous equipment at district hospitals to avoid overloading of provincial and central hospitals and, above all, to create conditions for the poor and remote areas to access modern health care services.

As a doctor in the highlands, where people's lives are still difficult, I will continue to call for support from organizations to maintain blood banks and charity porridge at hospitals; organize many medical examination and treatment programs, and give free medicine to people in remote areas who still face many difficulties in economic conditions as well as transportation...

On the other hand, as a female candidate and an ethnic minority, I will pay attention to issues of gender equality, the rights of women and children in the community, along with policies for people with meritorious services, policies for students in mountainous ethnic minority areas, vocational training, job creation for children of ethnic minorities after graduation... These are necessary things to narrow the gap between mountainous areas and the plains, not only in the field of health but also in all aspects of social life.

PV:Thank you!
