Treat allergies, hives, and itching with the "General's Formula" (a traditional Vietnamese herbal remedy).
The plant known as *Dendrobium nobile*, also called *Dendrobium fimbriatum*, *Dendrobium fimbriatum*, or *Dendrobium fimbriatum*, grows up to 2 meters tall. Its trunk is hollow and porous, with few branches. Leaves are clustered at the top or on side branches; the upper surface is dark green and smooth like velvet, while the lower surface is purplish-red with prominent, network-like veins and small serrated edges. Flowers grow in clusters 10-15 cm long, white tinged with pinkish-purple, consisting of 5 sepals and 3 petals. The fruit is a berry, turning red when ripe.
In Vietnam, this plant grows wild near rivers and streams, and along forest edges in the northern mountainous provinces, and is cultivated in the lowlands for medicinal purposes. The medicinal part is the leaves. The plant is propagated from seeds in the spring. Young leaves are harvested year-round, usually used fresh, but can also be dried for later use.
According to research, the leaves of the *Dendrobium nobile* plant have strong detoxifying, anti-allergic, and antibacterial effects. In folk medicine, *Dendrobium nobile* leaves are commonly used for allergies, rashes, hives, scabies, sore throats, and rheumatic pain with swelling, redness, and heat.
