On August 9th, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, announced that following a series of incidents in the private healthcare sector, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien had submitted a report to the Prime Minister regarding issues related to private medical examination and treatment activities.

According to the report, the country currently has 137 hospitals and 30,000 private clinics. 6.6 million people received medical treatment at private healthcare facilities last year.

Currently, there are 40 licensed Chinese doctors practicing in Vietnam. Of these, 11 are in Ho Chi Minh City at 7 facilities; 7 in Hanoi at 5 facilities; 4 each in Hai Phong and Can Tho; and 1-2 in other provinces and cities. The authorities are struggling to issue practice certificates to foreign doctors in Vietnam because they lack clear information about the training programs and the quality of foreign training institutions.
