To commemorate the merits of King Mai and his generals, to recall the heroic spirit of the uprising that defeated the northern invaders and established the independent state of Van An, and to educate the younger generation about patriotic traditions and promote the tourism potential of Nam Dan, this year's King Mai Festival will take place from March 3rd to 5th (corresponding to the 13th to 15th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Goat).
The festival includes both ceremonial and celebratory activities, with the celebratory part being diverse and rich, reflecting the national identity with wrestling, card games, folk singing exchanges (ví and giặm styles), a "sticky rice and chicken feast" competition, and the release of floating lanterns…
This year, the King Mai Festival will especially revive the water procession ceremony (dating back to the time of King Mai Hac De). The highlight of this year's King Mai Festival will be a performance by the Central Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) Troupe, recreating the image of King Mai and his generals through the play "Mai Hac De" on the evening of the 14th of the lunar month at the King Mai Temple grounds. The play is by Nguyen The Ky, former Secretary of the Nam Dan District Party Committee and currently Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.
At the meeting, after hearing reports from various departments and agencies on the preparations, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Dan District, Dinh Xuan Que, emphasized: This is a traditional festival of this land of spiritual significance and outstanding people, so the preparations must be extremely thorough. He requested that the departments and organizations assigned tasks adhere closely to the plan, have specific plans for each task, and be flexible in handling all situations so that the festival takes place safely, economically, and leaves a lasting impression on the people, tourists, and friends from within the province and the country who come to attend the 2015 King Mai Festival.
