The 2018 AFF Cup final was included in a history exam.
The question "opportunities and challenges for ASEAN citizens in the integration process" is linked to the image of the Vietnam - Malaysia final match.
On the morning of December 18th, more than 150 12th-grade students from the Social Sciences stream at Le Quy Don High School (Ho Chi Minh City) completed their first semester History exam with great enthusiasm, as the questions related to the hottest topic of the past few days - the 2018 AFF Cup final.
The essay section, worth 4 points, consists of two questions on the topic of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Question 2 includes an image from the first leg of the Vietnam - Malaysia final match.

Question 1:
Given the following phrases: BANGKOK - BALI - VIETNAM - BRUNEI - LAOS - MYANMAR - CAMBODIA - CHARTER.
Using the suggested words above, write a paragraph describing the development of an international organization in Southeast Asia.
Question 2:
2.1. What opportunities and challenges will Vietnam face upon joining ASEAN?
2.2. The image above is from the 2018 AFF Cup final between the Vietnam and Malaysia national teams. In your opinion, what advantages and challenges will joining ASEAN bring to football fans in these countries?
As the exam setter, Master Nguyen Viet Dang Du (Head of the History Department) shared that the 12th-grade curriculum focuses on the origin, development, challenges, and opportunities of joining ASEAN. Students must apply their knowledge to real-world situations to understand the advantages, difficulties, and civic responsibilities during the integration process.
"Instead of presenting the advantages and challenges to citizens of ASEAN countries, I focused on a specific individual, namely football fans, to make it more relatable and engaging for the students. The image of the final match reminded them of the Vietnamese team's victory, which made the students very excited," Mr. Du shared.
The teacher added that the assignment was prepared and submitted to the school administration for approval last week, before the second leg of the final match took place at My Dinh Stadium on the evening of December 15th. Including the final match in the assignment also reflected the teachers' and students' hope that the national team would win the gold cup.
On the evening of December 15th, at My Dinh Stadium, the Vietnamese national team won 1-0 in the second leg of the 2018 AFF Cup final against Malaysia with the only goal scored by Anh Duc. Coach Park Hang-seo's team lifted the trophy after a 10-year wait for millions of fans.
