Learning from the experience of the previous screening for children with congenital heart disease (organized in August 2012), this time the Provincial Children's Fund coordinated with the Medical Centers of districts and towns to conduct screening right at the facility and any children with suspected signs of heart disease were given appointment papers in clusters by experts and doctors of the Cardiovascular Center - Hanoi E Hospital. Along with that, at the examination clusters, officers of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and medical staff distributed the list for patients to be examined in order and provided patient information. At the Thai Hoa Town Medical Center, Dien Ky Commune Medical Station also divided the examination flow for each specific district... With these methods, there was no jostling like in the previous organization and also created favorable conditions for experts and doctors of the Cardiovascular Center to examine and provide more detailed advice to patients.

Mr. Ly Ba Re from Huoi Dun village, Huoi Tu commune (Ky Son) had to leave one day in advance to take his 7-year-old son Ly Y Xia to the Do Luong district Humanitarian Center for a heart disease screening. Mr. Re said: “Last month, we heard from the staff of the district’s Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs that they were taking our son to town for a screening and were given an appointment to go to Do Luong for a check-up. The family was very happy because the doctor in Hanoi examined him for free, but they were also very worried because he had to have heart surgery, and the family is poor, so they hoped to receive heart surgery sponsorship from the program.”

It is known that to help families in the mountainous districts of Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Ky Son bring their children to see a doctor by boat, Do Luong Humanitarian Center has carefully prepared food and accommodation right at the center. Doctor Phan Thao Nguyen - head of the heart disease screening team of the Cardiovascular Center - E Hospital said: "This is a humanitarian activity, so the medical staff and doctors in the team are not afraid of difficulties, but enthusiastically work with all their heart for the job. In Thai Hoa town, although it was late, there were many patients from Que Phong district who got off the bus late, we still waited to screen the children".

With timely support from all levels and sectors and the efforts of the Cardiovascular Center - Hanoi E Hospital, in 3 days of implementing the congenital heart disease screening program in Nghe An (from May 13 to 15), 977 screenings were conducted and through ultrasound, 89 cases of heart surgery were detected and indicated. Mr. Nguyen Huu Minh - Director of Nghe An Children's Support Fund said: "After conducting screening at the cluster, the Children's Support Fund will coordinate with relevant levels and sectors to assess family circumstances. The subjects and cases from poor families, remote areas will be given priority for heart surgery at Hanoi E Hospital".

The heart surgery program for children with congenital heart disease sponsored by Bac A Bank and TH Milk Food Joint Stock Company was implemented in Nghe An with a total funding of 5 billion VND. With this meaningful work, in the near future, more children in our province will have the opportunity to have heart surgery and live a healthy life./.
