Vietnamese bananas dominate supermarket systems across Japan
Since September 2, Vietnamese bananas have been officially sold at the supermarket system of Aeon - Japan's leading retail group.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Trade Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, said that Vietnamese bananas are sold at the Japanese Aeon supermarket system. This not only helps Vietnamese bananas reach Japanese consumers widely, but also helps Vietnamese bananas reach markets in other countries around the world.
"Because when Vietnamese bananas are sold at Aeon's supermarket system, they will of course be sold at Aeon supermarkets around the world," Mr. Dung affirmed.

Vietnamese banana products being sold at the Japanese Aeon supermarket system is a very meaningful event for Vietnamese businesses wanting to promote trade and investment in the Japanese market.
In particular, for the Japanese retail supermarket system, it is the fastest way to bring Vietnamese goods to Japanese consumers. This is also a major policy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, related ministries, branches and associations to bring Vietnamese goods to the world's consumers as quickly and widely as possible.
Ide Takemi, CEO and Head of Food Product Development Planning of Aeon Group, said that dragon fruit, mango, and processed catfish products from Vietnam are now available at the group's supermarket systems. The addition of bananas to Aeon helps Japanese consumers have more access to fresh Vietnamese products, helping Vietnamese businesses develop strongly in the Japanese market.
Previously, from April 30, 2016, Vietnamese bananas were officially available in the Japanese retail market through the large supermarket chain of Don Quijote. It is expected that in the near future, the Japanese market will double the volume of bananas imported from Vietnam along with the expansion of the distribution network.
The Japanese market has a high demand for imported bananas, with a consumption of approximately 1 million tons per year. According to statistics, the Philippines currently ranks first, accounting for 85% of the market share of imported bananas in Japan. However, Japanese businesses say they are looking to diversify their supply sources for the Japanese market.
