Representative of the Trade Office - Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, said that with a volume of about 15 tons exported by Huy Long An Company to the Japanese market, Don Quijote is selling Vietnamese bananas at more than 10 locations of this retail supermarket system in Tokyo and many localities around Tokyo such as Saitama, Chiba...

It is expected that in the coming time, the Japanese market will double the volume of bananas imported from Vietnam, while expanding the distribution network.

The Japanese market has a high demand for imported bananas, with a consumption of approximately 1 million tons per year. According to statistics, the Philippines currently ranks first, accounting for 85% of the market share of imported bananas in Japan. However, Japanese businesses say they are looking to diversify their supply sources for the Japanese market.

Vietnamese bananas began to be exported to the Japanese market in 2013. This was a trial export to explore the market, so at that time Vietnamese bananas were not yet available in large supermarket chains such as Don Quijote.

Assessing the competitiveness of Vietnamese bananas, Mr. Hidekatsu Ishikawa, Chairman of VIENT Company, a Japanese importer, highly appreciated the quality of Vietnamese bananas with a sweetness suitable to the taste of Japanese consumers and a competitive price.

Mr. Hidekatsu Ishikawa said that in addition to the Don Kihote retail supermarket chain, a number of other local supermarket chains have also sold Vietnamese bananas, such as Chalenger of Niiggata province.

With the above opportunities and advantages, Vietnamese bananas have great potential to further expand their market share in the Japanese market. The representative of the Trade Office - Embassy of Vietnam in Japan believes that this is good news for the export of Vietnamese agricultural products.

It is expected that in the coming time, the Trade Office of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan will coordinate with businesses to promote Vietnamese bananas at trade promotion events to increase the market share of Vietnamese bananas in the Japanese market./.
