Speaking with reporters on the morning of March 2nd, Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Quynh (Neonatal Department, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) said that after nearly a month, the baby still needs oxygen and is fed through a feeding tube.
"According to the plan, at 2 PM today, March 2nd, Baby Bé will be transferred to the National Children's Hospital for examination of her hydrocephalus and further treatment," Dr. Quỳnh said.
Previously, on February 5th, Ms. Ho Thi Thuy (born in 1994, residing in Dien Trung commune, Dien Chau district – seven months pregnant) gave birth prematurely while using the restroom.
When the baby was brought to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, she had stopped breathing and her heart had stopped beating; her body was turning blue. According to Dr. Quynh, it took the doctors about 30 minutes to get her heart beating again.
According to doctors at the Neonatal Department, the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital still receives cases of "spontaneous births" every year and successfully treats many of them. Ventricular dilation occasionally occurs in newborns and requires examination and monitoring.
Mr. Hoang Van Cu (Ms. Thuy's husband) said that the child, Be, is their second child. He and his wife are farmers, and their family is facing financial difficulties. They are hoping for kind-hearted people to help them cover the costs of their son's treatment.
