Midu's thrilling trip to Korea because of the loss of a bag worth hundreds of millions
Losing her designer bag containing her passport, bank card and 120 million VND in cash, Midu went through a detective movie-like journey to find the bag.
One of the most frightening worries of anyone traveling abroad is losing their belongings, especially documents. Because managing without a passport, plane ticket, bank card and cash in a foreign land is always not simple, even with destinations that are inherently familiar. Recently, Midu had to face a "disaster" when all of her important belongings "disappeared" along with her designer bag upon landing at the airport in Korea.
Midu shared that Seoul is not unfamiliar to her because she has been here many times for tourism and work. In early April, the actress went to Seoul to meet a Korean partner. Usually, Midu usually takes a taxi from the airport to the hotel, but this time her group of friends decided to experience the express train from Incheon airport to Seoul station. When the train arrived, because she was in a hurry to carry her suitcase, she forgot her designer bag. It is worth mentioning that in the bag there were all her personal documents including passport, ID card, driver's license, a small designer wallet containing bank cards, cash (both won and USD) totaling about 120 million VND.
Midu arrived in Korea right when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. |
Immediately, the actressHero's destinymet the staff on the train to contact the staff at the airport (where Midu left her bag) but the answer she received was that the bag had disappeared from the scene. Unfortunately, the express train had no stops but ran for 45 minutes straight to the center of Seoul. Therefore, Midu had to take 2 trains, a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, in anxiety and impatience.
"After struggling on the train, I returned to where I started. The scenery was still there but the bag was gone. I worked with the train station staff to extract the CCTV, I wanted to know who took the bag and they agreed. When I entered the CCTV room, it felt like stepping into a Hong Kong or Korean crime-solving action movie when many screens opened before my eyes. The task was to find the camera angle that showed the person who took the bag in the determined time period among many camera angles. And finally, that mysterious character appeared, a middle-aged man who took my bag away," Midu recounted.
At this point, their duty was over, the camera angle was too obscured to see the person's face clearly. The actress had to ask for help from the police. The biggest obstacle was that the investigator did not speak English, so Midu had to call a friend in Korea to help translate. The police said it was not easy to find the bag because the airport was very crowded, the suspect could have taken her bag and left Korea, then advised Midu to return home and wait for information.
"While waiting, I thought it was lucky that I lost my bag in Korea. Even though it was due to my carelessness, everyone from the train station staff to the people working on the ground were always enthusiastic in helping me find my bag as if they had lost it themselves, constantly apologizing for my misfortune when I came to their country. Their attitude and responsibility really warmed my heart and made me feel better. Actually, when I saw CCTV showing someone picking up the bag, opening it to look and then silently taking it away, I felt that there was no hope of finding it because I had too much cash in my bag. It's hard to blame others for not being greedy, they just wanted to find their documents," the actress said.
Having traveled to many places, especially Korea, Midu determined in advance what to do when losing documents. That is to go to the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea and get a passport to be able to return home. However, the procedures are quite arduous, including the steps of dialing a number, waiting, preparing documents, even running back and forth to supplement documents... just like in Vietnam, making Midu feel "a little confused".
Despite losing her property, Midu still had to complete the planned work. The actress asked for help from her Korean partner, hoping to get information about the bag. However, when Mr. Park (the Korean partner) called the police station, he replied that the case had not been recorded. He advised her to go directly to the Railway Police Station to report the case and asked his wife to go with her to support.
"I just entered the police station and said that I was a Vietnamese who lost my bag at Incheon station yesterday, they recognized me right away. The police said that they had sent someone to Incheon station to investigate since 1 p.m. and they still hadn't returned yet, so they hadn't filed a report to the higher-level police station (the unit Mr. Park called to ask about earlier). Here, while waiting, I was allowed to record my statement to file a report, with this form, I would have a file code to check the situation of finding the bag no matter where it is. I didn't have to write anything, but the police officer helped me write all 10 A4 pages of the file, then gave me instructions very methodically and professionally," Midu said.
At 7 p.m., the good news came when the police found a camera angle that clearly showed the face of the person who took the bag. The entire police station applauded because they had worked so hard. The appearance of the person who took the bag could be Chinese or Korean. The police continued to investigate the boarding pass to determine the identity. Surprisingly, the next morning, Midu received a phone call that the bag had been found and went to the police station to claim it. "It was like a miracle, I didn't dare dream of receiving the bag, I was sure that I had found the documents and money, it was okay. I was so excited to receive the bag, the moment I opened the bag was the most surprising moment. The bag was intact, completely complete, nothing was missing. I was so happy I wanted to cry, Mrs. Park and my friend were all happy and joyful."
Midu found her fateful bag after 2 days of losing it. |
The truth is that the person who took Midu's bag was a kind man. When he saw that the bag was forgotten and had a lot of money inside, he brought it to the Lost and Found Office of the train station and returned it. The office contacted the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea. However, the information was delayed, so the actress only received the news 2 days later. Through the unfortunate incident, Midu is very grateful for the sense of responsibility and wholehearted help of the Korean police and her Korean friends.

Some notes when losing property abroad:
- If you lose something at the airport or train station, you need to immediately notify the management and go to the Lost and Found counter to register the loss information.
- In case of loss of large assets and documents, you should immediately report to the nearest police station to quickly find clues. This also helps prevent others from using your passport to impersonate you and commit illegal acts.
- Contact the nearest Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate to apply for a travel document. This document is equivalent to a passport so you can return to your country. The documents usually include a photo, a detailed declaration, a return flight ticket, etc. You need to find a place to take and print your photo in your locality.
- It is best to have the help of local people or Vietnamese friends who can speak the local language because most police stations have difficulty finding English-speaking staff.
- You need to lock your bank card and report it lost immediately (you can lock it online by phone, computer or call the bank hotline).
- Do not carry too much cash with you and divide it into several places. Carry a bag containing important items (passport, bank cards) to avoid forgetting them.
