British experts "give tips" on eliminating banned substances in livestock farming
Faced with the current situation of using banned substances and antibiotics in livestock farming, a British professor came to Vietnam to introduce his research over the past 25 years.
At the recent scientific conference "Probiotics - Breakthrough technology to improve the quality of animal feed", the application of heat-resistant spore probiotics by Professor Simon Cutting, Royal Holloway University (UK) was highly appreciated by many domestic and foreign scientists. Probiotics are a collection of bacteria that are beneficial to the digestive system of animals.

Professor Simon Cutting spent 25 years successfully researching beneficial bacteria to help livestock grow well. |
According to scientists, Vietnam has applied Probiotics to animal feed, but most of them are live bacteria, when they enter the animal's digestive system, they will be destroyed and lose their digestive support effect. Beneficial bacteria will decrease, and the animal's resistance will not be guaranteed. Meanwhile, many animal feed production facilities have added growth stimulants or antibiotics to livestock to gain high profits.
The heat-resistant spore probiotics that Professor Simon Cutting has been researching for 25 years are said to overcome the above disadvantages. According to this professor, with the spore shell like an armor surrounding the bacteria, it helps them survive in low pH environments and withstand pelleting temperatures of up to 95 degrees Celsius, so it can be applied in industrial production.
This armor layer follows the bacteria into the internal organs, to the small intestine, where it encounters a favorable environment and begins to produce enzymes that digest nutrients in food. "In the small intestine, beneficial bacteria will ensure nutrient absorption, enhance resistance, and prevent the invasion of harmful bacteria," said the professor.

Authorities have recently discovered many banned substances that affect consumers' health (illustrative photo). |
A member of the research team from the UK said that experimental results on pigs showed that when users added Probiotics to animal feed, it helped reduce the rate of diarrhea by 60-70%, reduce the use of antibiotics to prevent and treat intestinal diseases in livestock, thereby increasing livestock efficiency.
Talking to VnExpress, Dr. Pham Kim Dang, Deputy Head of the Animal Husbandry Department of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, said that because of its spore-like structure, preserving this beneficial bacteria is much simpler and easier than with live bacteria. "The application of 100% heat-resistant spore probiotics into practical production is completely feasible to improve the quality of food in meals," Dr. Dang said.
