Russian expert: One BrahMos missile is enough to split a destroyer in half
According to expert Alexandr Khrolenko, just one BrahMos cruise missile is enough to split a large ship like a US destroyer in half.
The power of the BrahMos missile was mentioned by expert Alexandr Khrolenko in an article published on Sputnik. "The Russian-Indian BrahMos cruise missile is called by its manufacturers the best product in the world, unprecedented in this segment.
And this is not an exaggeration; the advantages of the missile - the range of destruction of large targets (about 400 km), unpredictable flight trajectory and high hypersonic speed (the opponent does not have enough time to leave the attack area), easy operation, effective overcoming of missile defense systems (flying at an altitude of less than 10 meters), high lethality due to large kinetic energy.

The salvo will destroy a group of targets. During the flight, the missile does not need to be controlled (the principle is "fire and forget"). In theory, nine missiles are guaranteed to destroy three enemy destroyers equipped with modern missile defense systems. In practice, in the test, with just one missile, a large target ship such as an American destroyer was split in half.
According to this expert, BrahMos is manufactured with 65% of components and equipment provided by Russia, including the radar target detection system and jet engine...
They can carry a 200 kg or 300 kg armor-piercing warhead and are also capable of carrying a 250 kg miniaturized nuclear warhead. The missile can be launched from land, ships, air or even by submarines or underwater launchers, the BrahMos is basically designed to be mounted on the Su-30MKI.
Currently, experts from both countries continue to upgrade the new generation of supersonic missiles BrahMos II, which can reach very high speeds of about Mach 6 or Mach 7. Tests of these new missiles will continue in 2017. The range of the BrahMos missile will increase from 290 km to 450 km. After that, experts plan to increase the range to 800 km.
Expert Alexandr Khrolenko said that currently, the competitors of BrahMos products are China's CM-302 missile and Zarb of the China-Pakistan joint venture. Of which, CM-302 has just been introduced to the public recently.
The CM-302 is a modified version of the Russian X-31 anti-ship missile, manufactured in China under license from Russia. However, if the technical characteristics of the CM-302 missile are as stated, it will be a worthy opponent of the Russian-Indian missiles.
The Zarb missile is clearly not on par with the BrahMos. Because to produce this missile they used mainly the same technology as the Tomahoawk missile. By this time this technology is outdated. Moreover, the Zarb is a conventional missile that is not capable of reaching supersonic speeds.
In fact, there are some competitors to BrahMos but they will soon be left behind because of the technical and technological advantages of BrahMos. Moreover, the appearance of the modernized version of BrahMos II will leave the rival missiles in the dust.
In the world, the program to develop hypersonic cruise missiles is currently being actively developed by the US, Russia and China. However, in this field, only Russia has more development experience than many countries in the world and has achieved unexpected results.
