Russian expert: It is very difficult for Su-30MK2 to use Israeli missiles

According to Russian experts, the Rampage missile produced by Israel may be very powerful but it is not compatible to equip the Su-30MK2 fighter.

The above statement by Colonel Makar Aksenenko, Associate Professor of Russian Military Sciences, was made in an article recently published in Russian media.

Israel releases images of Rampage missile.

"The Israeli-made Rampage missile is considered an air-launched version of the EXTRA guided rocket artillery shell. It is a multi-purpose destructive vehicle, used in missions to attack a variety of ground targets.

However, judging by the initial features disclosed by the manufacturer, the tactical-technical characteristics of the Rampage do not have an advantage over the standard missiles of the current Russian Su-27 fighter jets.

Colonel Aksenenko also stressed the particular problem of equipping Su-35 fighters with non-standard weapons, which leads to changes in the design and equipment of the aircraft. And there are serious problems here, the Russian expert warned.

"Here we are talking about repair and maintenance services for exported weapons and military equipment. Unauthorized interference by third parties (especially serious interference) with the equipment of Su aircraft can lead to disastrous consequences for customers purchasing this product.

All those customers who have tried to improve Russian technology without interacting with the manufacturers simply no longer have the possibility of providing maintenance services for these complex systems. The best option is to continue to use as much of the standard and potential weapons that are allowed to be used on Russian-made combat aircraft as possible.

I would like to say frankly that attempts to equip Su aircraft with non-standard, and even "third-party" weapons are nothing more than a waste of money with questionable results and affect the combat readiness of the Air Force equipped with Su aircraft," Colonel Makar Aksenenko concluded.

According to information released by Israel, the Rampage air-to-ground missile is a joint product between Israel Military Industry (IMI) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

The original Rampage missile was IMI's EXTRA guided rocket artillery shell. They combined with IAI to put this weapon on the F-15I Ra'am and F-16I Sufa fighters with the aim of improving the flexibility of the launch vehicle as well as its technical and tactical features.

Compared to when launched from the ground, by taking advantage of the initial speed and altitude of the fighter, the range of the Rampage missile is estimated to be up to 250 - 300 km, which is much higher than the 150 km of EXTRA.

All core technologies of the EXTRA bullet are still retained on Rampage, which is using a guidance system through a global positioning system for a deviation of less than 10 m. In the future, Rampage is expected to be integrated with IAI's photoelectric seeker, allowing it to attack moving targets.
