The appointment of Mike Pompeo as head of the US State Department will not change Washington's policy towards Moscow, and one should not expect any positive changes in relations with Russia.

Mr. Mike Pompeo |
That is the opinion of expert Vladimir Batjuk, head of the Center for Military-Political Studies of the Institute of the United States and Canada (Russian Academy of Sciences), commenting on the US President's dismissal of Rex Tillerson and appointment of Mike Pompeo as US Secretary of State.
"If we talk not about the style but about the content of US foreign policy, there will be very little change here. Like Tillerson, Pompeo will try to pursue President Trump's foreign policy," - expert Batjuk commented.
He noted that one should not expect any changes in the direction of relations with Russia, because the US President's administration "has its hands tied very tightly." In addition, Mr. Batjuk added, the decision of the US Congress to impose sanctions against Russia "is complicating the normalization of Russian-American relations, regardless of which administration, president, or secretary of state."
This view is shared by another expert, Lieutenant General Evgeny Buzhinsky, former head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Department of International Agreements. Mr. Buzhinsky told Sputnik that personnel changes in the White House will not lead to a change in the direction of the US-Russia relationship for the better./.
