Expert comments on Russia's latest 'Sarmat' missile

Editor-in-Chief of the magazine 'Arsenal of the Fatherland', member of the expert council of the military-industrial complex Victor Murakhovski commented on the image of the model of the ballistic missile 'Sarmat'.

On October 26, the Makeyev company introduced on its website a photo of the "Sarmat" missile, which will begin testing in 2018.

“Yes, exactly, that is the image of the product manufactured within the test framework. In fact, the final version will be similar, because the appearance will not seem to be significantly different,” the expert said.

He also noted that Makeev does not disclose any information of a confidential nature, since the data is exchanged between the Russian Federation and the United States within the framework of the bilateral agreement on strategic offensive weapons.

The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, scheduled to enter service in 2018-2021, will be the largest weapon in the missile group.

According to The National Interest's estimates, the Sarmat missile will weigh at least 100 tons, while its warhead could weigh up to 10 tons. These figures mean that the missile could carry up to 15 separate thermonuclear warheads.
