Military expert: “The “new” missile threatens Ukraine more than anyone else”
Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko said the country possesses cruise missiles with a strike radius of more than 1,000km. Military expert Alexei Podberezkin noted that Kiev still uses Soviet developments to introduce new weapons.
"We have a missile that has been successfully tested and is capable of reaching a distance of more than a thousand kilometers and carrying a warhead weighing 150 kilograms. This is a high-precision cruise missile. And all missile components were created by Ukrainian specialists," Poroshenko said.
According to him, the military is currently being trained to use this weapon in the future. Poroshenko added that after cruise missiles were put into service in the 1990s, Ukraine “didn’t have many operators of such complexes.”
Director of the Center for Military and Political Studies of MGIMO, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexey Podberezkin commented on this statement. He noted that Kiev still uses Soviet developments to introduce new forms of weapons.
“What is being recreated in Ukraine is all old Soviet developments. There were cruise missiles with such a long range in the Soviet Union. Ukraine has not invented anything new. Moreover, Ukraine cannot establish its own production of missiles. In my opinion, these missiles will threaten Ukraine more than anyone else,” said Alexey Podberezkin.
