A heroic soldier with horrific burns left behind after he tried to save a woman from a car crash has successfully undergone a life-changing face transplant.
The horrific accident that left Mitch Hunter's entire face disfigured happened when he was just 21 years old. While driving with his girlfriend and another friend, the car hit a 10,000 volt high voltage pole.

Hunter, who had served in the US military, pushed the woman away from the electric current and was electrocuted, causing burns to her face, hands and body.
For five minutes, the electric current coursed through his body, and his face was the most severely affected part. “Luckily,” Mitch had no recollection of the horrific accident.
After that, he had to have 20 skin grafts taken from his legs and back because the accident had caused the skin on his face and neck to peel off. For a long time, Mitch had to endure a face that was distorted and deformed in a scary way, even making children cry when they saw it.
When Mitch's current wife became pregnant, he decided to try facial surgery, accepting the risky procedure out of a determination not to let his unborn son be afraid of his appearance.

Mitch then decided to recount his incredible story on his YouTube channel, detailing the surgeries he underwent to get his current face.
He also shared with news channel WISHTV8: “Imagine walking into a room and falling down, and everyone staring at you. That’s what happens every time I walk into a room just because of my face.”
“I feel as strong as I did when I was 21, and I feel great. Looking back is just a way for me to become stronger.”

A team of 30 doctors spent more than 14 hours transforming Mitch's face, replacing his eyes, nose and lips, and reattaching facial muscles and nerves.
After 5 months of waiting for the swelling to subside, Mich is now proud to show off the results of that wonderful process. He said: “Hot, cold, pain, tickling, stroking my beard, and someone kissing my face - I can feel it all. This has been a wonderful journey, albeit a difficult one. I want to tell everyone not to worry about the small things, to live life to the fullest, to show love to everyone because you never know what will happen.”
