Behind organ donations around the world are thrilling and touching stories, sometimes people think they are from a novel or a fairy tale.

Donated kidney to stranger, then married him 4 years later

A young man received a kidney from a girl he had just met and married her four years later. Chelsea Clair and Kyle Froelich met in 2009 at a car show when Chelsea was 22 and Kyle was 19.

After a long battle to find a suitable kidney donor, Kyle was told by doctors that there was no hope of finding a donor. As fate would have it, Kyle was offered numerous incompatible donors until a year later, when they both underwent surgery and Chelsea successfully donated her kidney to him.

After being with each other in the hospital, they fell in love without realizing it. Their love ended with a beautiful fairy tale wedding on October 12, 2013 with the vow: "I give you my hand, my heart and my soul, because I know we will be safe together."

Wearing a tag for 1 year to find a kidney for his wife

Few people are as persistent as Larry Swilling in his efforts to find a kidney for his wife. The 78-year-old man decided to give his wife, Jimmie Sue, a second chance at life, so he walked the streets of his hometown in South Carolina, USA, looking for a donor.

Jimmie Sue was born with only one kidney. Doctors told her she needed a new one because her kidneys were failing. Neither Mr. Swilling nor his three children had compatible kidneys and they faced a long waiting list to find a suitable one.

Mr Swilling, who has been married for 57 years, said he could not imagine life without his wife. Hundreds of people contacted him to see if their kidneys were compatible after learning of his plight.

In September 2013, their wish was finally granted after retired Navy Captain Kelly Weavering donated one of his kidneys and the surgery was successful.

Father must choose to donate kidney to daughter or son

It was a difficult decision to choose which of his two children to save. Anthony Levin faced this heartbreaking situation when his daughter Jade and a year later, his son Keegan needed a kidney transplant. He could only save one of them. In the end, he decided to give the kidney to the child who needed it most first, Jade.

Jade was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2004, a genetic condition. The genetic defect had been passed down from generation to generation without any symptoms before Antony and Victoria, both carriers, met. With each child, the situation worsened. However, Jesse, the eldest, was spared. Keegan, born four years later, had the condition but it did not manifest until Jade, 11, began to feel ill. As the third child, he was the most affected. Jade has improved significantly since surgery, while Keegan is still waiting for a kidney donor.

Donated the heart of a suicidal man, married the donor's widow, then ended his own life like the donor

Sonny Graham received Terry Cottle's heart and married his widow. In addition to being attracted to the deceased donor's wife, the new heart also caused Graham to become addicted to beer and sausages, Terry Cottle's former favorites.

The couple met after Graham began writing to her upon learning she was the wife of his heart donor. Twelve years after the successful heart transplant, Graham shot himself, leaving his wife widowed for the second time in similar circumstances.

Friends said Mrs Graham was shocked by the bizarre incident. Mr Graham, 69, died after shooting himself in the throat with a shotgun. He was found in the garage of the apartment they shared.
